Sushi California

The original plan was meeting up with some old friends that we haven't seen for a few years at the bowling alley. But when we got there, we were only to find out that the place was booked out for a private event. Good thing the weather was nice and we quickly decided we should all just go to Deer Lake for a nice walk.

Acme Cafe

Took a nice walk through woodwards building during lunch break. My first time here since the area has changed. I actually saw quite a few reviews about Acme Cafe, that's how I know about the place.

Indian Gate

I've been back to work since Wednesday. Working is definitely taking some time to get used to again but this also means I will get to try out more places downtown, if work doesn't get too crazy >.<

It's really great to see a lot of old faces and getting to know new ones :) A few of us went for lunch as an old coworker coming back soon dropped by. We didn't really know where to go at first then we finally decided to go for Indian food.

Cactus Club Cafe (on Robson street)

So I take it that most people already know that Cactus Club Cafe has changed a lot, not only with their new menu by Canada's only Iron Chef Rob Feenies, or their restaurant design and atmosphere, but also all the friendly hot hostesses and waitresses. Although my friend said they've always had cute waitresses, I'm not too sure, at least I notice it a lot more now than before.

4 Stones Vegetarian Cuisine

4 Stones is always packed with people at meal times, I can't remember if it was late lunch or early dinner when we decided to go, but we were very glad we did not have to wait for a table and also that their parking spots were actually available. The restaurant is located in a small plaza where they only have two customer parking spots and they are always taken.

Dae Bak Bon Ga

September 30 to October 15, 2010 was VIFF. We got tickets for The Two Escobars for last friday night's show. There was a lot of time before the movie so we met up for dinner at Dae Bak Bon Ga Korean Restaurant. It is on the 2nd floor next to Fogg 'n' Subds. I've been here a few times before for both lunches and dinners.

Tofurky Thanksgiving!

Last weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving. I remember that last year was my sister-in-law's first Thanksgiving. She saw Tofurky boxes in the store so she decided to get one for the holiday. My brother said they heard about it from the TV show Friends. This year she's away with the baby, so I called my brother up to ask about Tofurky, since I was curious and have never had it before. It was sold out at the Market Place IGA by his place where they got it last year, so we went to the one on Main Street and 14th Ave. There were still at least 5 boxes when we picked up ours.

Presto Cucina (Kitsilano)

We were blessed with such wonderful weather the whole week last week it was unbelievable. We took advantage of the great weather and went by two beaches on Saturday. First we cycled to UBC in the afternoon. Then in the early evening, our friends came pick us up to go to Kitsilano.

Some pictures I took at UBC.

Where to buy vegetarian products Part I

I'm not sure how many people are familiar with Asian vegetarian products, so I've decided maybe it would be helpful to write about them. They are usually either soy based or mushroom based, but unlike many western ones that you can easily get from most grocery stores, Asian ones are usually a lot more flavourful. These products are also a good start for people who are thinking about eating less meat or transitioning to a vegetarian. I have many non-veggie friends that have told me how much they like veggie meat :)

There are actually quite a few stores that sell vegetarian/vegan meat and food products in the greater Vancouver area. This time I will just start with T&T.

The good thing about these frozen vegetarian meat products is that most of them are already edible, you don't have to cook them long. So if you're not sure how long to cook them, usually getting them hot is good enough.

This is the freezer section for vegetarian products at Metrotown T&T Supermarket.
The ball shaped ones are usually for hot pots but they can also be cut up(not not) and stir fried with veggies or eaten alone, or however you would like to eat them.

Yamato Sushi

Yamato Sushi is a small place on Davie between Granville and Seymour St. I forgot to take a picture from outside, but it's painted in red and if you don't look carefully you'll surely miss it. The seating is very limited so if you don't have to eat in, it's always a good idea to do a take out.
