Vancouver Veggi Pizza

We have been ordering from Vancouver Veggi Pizza for a few times now since my friend mentioned it to us. Their big selling points for them are of course all vegetarian pizzas and that they use cheese without rennet. They also have specialty pizzas that are pretty cool like their paneer special. So one large pizza is $14 and the 2 for 1 deal is two large pizzas for $25. So far we are pretty happy with their pizzas. We have tried all the pizzas and have ordered Canadian pizza the most. I'm hoping to try the veggie burger sometimes in the future too :)

(I found this menu online and have been using it to order)

The Parker

Last week for a good friend's birthday, I thought we should go try out The Parker, another recently opened vegetarian restaurant in Vancouver.  We weren't sure if we needed reservation but I was glad we did, because when we got there around 7:30pm, the place was pretty much packed. The restaurant is small, maybe 5 or so tables for 2 and then bar seats.

We each got one of the none alcoholic drink they have, it was good :) After looking through the menu we decided to just get everything except the Ravioli. Since it's sharing style and on the bottom of the menu it says 5 plates for 2 people is suggested, 11 items sounded about right for 4 of us.

First dish we got. I actually don't think this is on the menu, but I think they were quail eggs.

Then Kimchi.
Sunchoke soup with Taro chips (sooo good)

Taro chips and Warm Jersey Blue Cheese with sesame crackers

Chickpea fries with special house-made ketchup (gooood)

Barbecue mushroom mini tacos

Kohlrabi (pickled ginger with miso dressing and seaweed) (not too bad)

Radishes (with salt and butter)

Potato Gnocchi(top) Shiitake mushroom and smoked soy(bottom)

Sous Vide Beets

Braised beans (not bad)

Finally, my friend ordered the Mini Creme Brulee from the dessert menu.

In the beginning we were all thinking that we were probably going to be still hungry after all the dishes. We had three big guys and one hungry breastfeeding mom, but surprisingly we all felt pretty full afterwards. Chickpea fries, Sunchoke soup with Taro Chips, and Braised beans were the dishes we enjoyed the most after trying out all the items we ordered. We would definitely recommend ordering the chickpea fries and the soup. In fact the table next to us, who came in after us that looked like they had been there before, the only things they ordered were the fries and soup. They knew what to go for ;)

The Fish House In Stanley Park

We were lucky, happened to pick a beautiful sunny Saturday for our friend's baby shower. It was a surprise one too, we all arrived a little early at The Fish House in Stanley Park, waiting for her to show up. I didn't know if parking was easy or close, turned out there is a pay parking right by The Fish House and tennis courts.

There were 9 of us, all mamas, two kids and one mama-to-be. It was funny how many families with babies were there for brunch that day :) I looked around and there were at least 3 other tables holding little ones, and that's just on this side of the restaurant.

Before the meals came, a basket of bread and butter came and also a croissant or a mini blueberry muffin was offered, I picked the muffin :)

There are about two or three vegetarian items on the brunch menu. I ordered the vegetarian benedict. Nothing too special for vegetarians on the menu but the benedict was nicely prepared.

The service was great, the waiter was really nice and the restaurant atmosphere was quiet and comfortable, I certainly hope we weren't too loud. It was great for our gathering, I think everyone enjoyed the baby shower there.

Heirloom Vegetarian

Have been very busy for the last while, but I guess that's not really an excuse for not updating my blog. Well, hopefully I will be able to update more often again. A friend couple that's getting married is in town and last night with two more friends, we all met up for dinner. We got a table for 6 at Heirloom on 12th Avenue and Granville Street. Heirloom is one of the recently opened vegetarian fine dining restaurants in Vancouver. There is free street parking right outside the restaurant on 12th after 6pm, it's quite convenient.

Inside it's very roomy with high ceilings and great lighting, the atmosphere is quite relaxing. We got there a bit after 6pm and quickly most tables were filled up. But it didn't feel crowded as there are good spacing between tables.

Drinks
Menu
We got pretty much every dish from the entree section of the menu.
Cuban Black Bean Chili
Butter Chickpea Curry
Savory Crepe
Pappardelle Pasta
Tempeh Reuben
Blue Lemonade
I ordered the Tempeh Reuben and the Blue Lemonade, and also got to try a bit of the Chili and Crepe. I didn't enjoy the lemonade too much, but the tempeh reuben was pretty good. The Chili was interesting because it came with rice(and corn chips) almost makes you feel like you're not eating chili when eating with rice. I had a bite of the crepe and I thought it was pretty good. Service was friendly and overall the food enjoyable. They have vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options, and they are also good with dietary restrictions. I would definitely go back again, but before I do, I would like to try out the other newly opened vegetarian restaurants first.

Slickity Jim's Chat n' Chew

Girls day out last Saturday, we started with brunch at Slickity Jim's Chat n' Chew :) One of my girl friends has been telling me about their portobello mushroom burger but I've never had a chance to try it out, and that was before their move after the fire incident. Now years (I think... already right?) later I'm finally here to try their food. We actually tried to do it once before but the wait was too long we gave up and went else where. This time, there's only three of us and we showed up around 11am. There were only about 4 people in front of us waiting. I didn't know you are supposed to put your name down on the chalkboard waiting list by the door. So I stood there for a while before I finally decided to ask the people in front of me if they were waiting too and they were nice enough to tell me to put my name down :P

I would say there is enough veggie stuff to pick from the breakfast/brunch menu. At least one or two items from each section. I was gonna get a veggie sandwich but stopped by my friend. We ended up picking three vegetarian omelettes to share. Still no portobello mushroom burger for me because it's on the dinner menu. I didn't really ask if they serve burgers in the morning though, but it was so hot that day I didn't really feel like eating a whole burger. The ventilation inside the restaurant didn't help either :( It was really hot, just happens that we picked one of the hottest days in Vancouver to eat here. No one else complained either. We even saw four big guys sitting in a small booth together, don't know how they did it :O

Veggie omelette

I had my omelette with potatoes, other two girls had salads, and we all had marble rye toasts. I finished mine and was very full but neither of them quite finished their plates. The portions are pretty good, the eggs might be a little bit on the dry side but overall not bad. We each had our own favourites I guess but being able to try all three was nice :) The service was pretty friendly too despite of the hotness and busyness. I know I would be back again to try the burger sometimes.
