Po Kong Vegetarian Restaurant

Finally I got this post up, and this should sum up the last Chinese Vegetarian Restaurant I know in the greater Vancouver area. So Po Kong used to be the old 'Bo Kong' on Main Street and 15th Ave now it has moved to Kingsway close to Knight Street.

We came here a few months ago for a birthday get together group dinner. I took a picture of the 4-person dinner combo because I think were planning on ordering it but didn't end up doing so.

Sorry I can't remember any name of the dishes we ordered... so this is just a very short  post with pictures >__<...

Whole Vegetarian Restaurant

This is a long overdue post on Whole Vegetarian Restaurant. I'm guessing probably 90% of the vegetarian people in Vancouver know about this place already. It's been at the same location since forever. Well, it used to be Bo Kong Vegetarian Restaurant, which had another location in Richmond, but both of them closed down maybe a year or two ago and Whole Vegetarian Restaurant (Same owners as Whole Vegetarian Food Inc) took over. Their menu pretty much stayed the same. (From the rumors I've heard, it was something to do with increasing the lease so Bo Kong had to move out :P Bo Kong has now reopened at a new location tho, called Po Kong. I will post about it soon too)

We usually come here for dim sum now, there's just not that many veggie dim sum choices around town anymore, it makes me sad :( Anyways, the pics I took were from a dinner we had a while back. I will do another update next time I go there for dim sum again.

Lower right is one of my usual favourite dishes, Sizzling Chow Mein, if I have the craving for Cantonese style crispy noodles. It's slightly pricier than other crispy noodles on the menu because it's served on a hot iron plate. If you haven't had it before, it's a good choice to go with, but otherwise I think other crispy noodles are as good :) Middle top dish should be Bean Curd Skin Roll with Black Sauce.

I think this was Jai Combination, basically marinated bean curds :)

Another one of our usual favourite dishes - Tasty Fresh Shiitake Mushroom. I guess the name really doesn't tell much about the dish other than it's shiitake mushrooms :P It's basically deep fried shiitake mushrooms with sweet and sour flavour. It's really good, I recommend it.

I think this is an item from the clay pot section, might be Taro and Vegetarian Cutlet Hot pot. Sorry it's been a while I don't remember, but it was good I remember that.

This is from a couple weeks ago from one of the dim sum runs. I felt like congee that day, so I ordered the Enoki Mushrrom and Bean Curd Skin Congee. The large is about 5 bowls and small about 3, that's what the waiter told us when we asked about the size. It was so good we finished up right away and I decided to order another small Corn Congee because both my sister-in-law and niece enjoyed the congee a lot too. So I will hopefully have some more dim sum soon and have the updates up after :)

Panz Veggie Restaurant (updated)

*update is after the original post
--original post--
This is another post I should have gotten to long ago :P Panz Veggie Restaurant is one of the vegetarian Chinese restaurants in Vancouver. My friends have told me about it when it first opened up but it took me a while to finally go and try it out. Having said that, that happened a long time ago too and I can't really remember when exactly it was, could have been early last year or even longer ago... I know I know... but I think I should still get it up because I want to get as much posts on vegetarian restaurants in Vancouver up as possible.

A table for 4

Menu

Brown Rice

Soup - (sorry can't remember if the soup came with the meal or we ordered that separately...)

I think this is the 'Laughing Tiger' on the menu.

Deep Fried Wonton

Sorry I don't remember the names of the other two dishes, this one is with cabbage and the other one with mushroom

Overall we thought the food was decent and service was good even though there was just one server and the owner when we were there. Only thing was that we didn't feel like we had enough food between the 4 of us, 2 guys and 2 girls. We thought the portions were just okay, but I guess we could have just ordered more. Hopefully we'll get a chance to go back there again soon.

Panz Veggie Restaurant 善慈素餐廳 on Urbanspoon

--July 20, 2012 Update --

Got a chance to visit Panz again with my old coworkers a few weeks back. I was looking at their lunch menu online (http://www.panzveggie.com/menu.html) and thought it would be nice to try it out since it looks like a good dea. Everyone was on board with a veggie lunch so off we went. They have the lunch menu printed on a piece of paper. I'm not sure if it changes everyday or if they're the same as the ones they have online, but I think they're close enough anyways. We ordered 4 different kinds out of the 5 of us, since I wanted the same thing as one of my firneds. I missed the picture of the Buddha's Feast one of us ordered. It's stir fried veggies since he can't have anything gluten, it was the choice he went with. He said he really liked it.

Double Wok with steamed rice

I think this is Satay Glutens(or bean curds)... I don't remember the exact name of it, sorry.

This is my Tangy Sweet and Sour Soya Ribs

I liked my dish a lot too, my craving for sweet and sour was fulfilled. The friend who ordered the same thing thought the sauce was too sweet but it went well with the chow mein. The owner came to asked if we enjoyed our meals and even offered us more chow mein or more steamed rice for free. So the friend got one more portion of chow mein and finished up all his sweet and sour sauce :) It was very nice of the owner. We'll definitely come back again for lunch sometimes.

NYC 2011 - Day 6

Our sixth and last day in NYC. The flight was at 10:30pm that night but we had to check out by 11:00am in the morning, so after checking out we left our luggage with the hotel for 2 dollars a piece. Breakfast was quite easy this time, my friends had requested to have another value meal at Bistro Marketplace. I didn't take any pictures this time.

It was a pretty relaxing day. There was really only one place to visit on today's schedule - American Museum of Natural History. It's funny even though that was the case, we still ended up not having as much time as we would like to see the museum.

East Fusion Food

My first time back eating at Tinseltown since I started working. I remember there used to be a Chinese fusion restaurant upstairs called Wild Ginger. I'm not sure when it was closed but we used to go there all the time for goodbye lunches as there always seemed to be someone leaving the company every week. The food was not too bad and it was really cheap but we eventually had to stop going because people got tired of the food there. So when I got back, they told me Wild Ginger is no longer there but there's a new on the ground level called East Fusion Food. My friend who just started working in Gastown wanted to meet up for lunch so we decided to just go there for a try.

A show or movie was filming inside Tinseltown that day. The Christmas set was amazing. When I walked in I thought they were doing the Christmas decoration already.

Spicy Vegetarian Cuisine

This is our first time at the Spicy Vegetarian Cuisine. We've passed by this restaurant many times and heard friends talked about it. Finally we got the chance to try it out for a late dinner.

Staurt's Bakery @ Oakridge Mall and Rice Ball Stand @ T&T Supermarket Metrotown

In between meal time, I was strolling around Oakridge Mall with my friend. I pass by Staurt's Bakery stand all the time but have never tried any of their stuff. I've always just walked by and looked into their display window and wondered. My friend was getting coffee from Starbucks so we thought we'd pick one thing from there to share. She pointed at the Italian Tiramisu right away as she's a big fan of Tiramisu.

No.9 Restaurant

It was nine-thirty in the morning on a Saturday, we were trying to decide where to kill an hour of time while waiting for the car to be serviced. Good thing our car shop was right across from Lansdowne Mall but the bad thing was the mall doesn't open that early. As it was wet and cold that day, we decided the only smart thing to do was to have breakfast at No.9.
